Crowdpurr live-audience Trivia Games is a fun and interactive way to test your audience's knowledge by having them use their mobile device to play along! Your crowd competes against each other by earning points based on answering questions correctly in the least amount of time. Your Trivia Game can ask many types of questions, show image/video-based questions, and then show live rankings listing the top players in your game to your audience!
How Does Crowdpurr Trivia Work?
Crowdpurr lets you create Trivia Games using our 100% original prewritten trivia categories on our Trivia Library like Sports, Movies, Music, and Celebrities. Alternatively, you can even write your own custom-content trivia game with your questions and answers. You can create a trivia game about your company, family, brand, event, etc. Feel free to have fun and add pictures!
Trivia Games ask questions that always have a correct answer. When crowd members answer correctly within the question's timer they are awarded points - the faster they answer the more points. If they answer wrong, they can lose points.
You can ask questions like:
- "Which album is the highest-selling album of all time?"
- "What is the last name of fashion designer Donatella, sister of the murdered Gianni?"
- "How many years was Steve Jobs CEO of Apple?"
Unlike a Poll, trivia questions have a correct answer and are not solely opinion-based.
Trivia Game Options & Question Types
There are several different Trivia Game buttons under the Create Experience page. These Trivia Game options are "shortcuts" for creating a Trivia Game with different settings.
Countdown Trivia
Countdown Trivia is our standard trivia game type and it works like your favorite trivia game at your local pub or bar. Your crowd answers questions and gets awarded more points the faster they answer correctly. Players are then ranked numerically on the leaderboard based on how many points they've earned.

Survivor Trivia
Survivor Trivia allows you to create a Survivor Mode trivia game where players must answer every question correctly within the time allotted for each question to proceed to the next question and ultimately win.
At the end of the game, you can display who the winning Survivors are. Additionally, you can enable other options like allowing players to keep playing if they're eliminated. To learn more about Survivor Trivia, check out the article Survivor Trivia Explained.
Team Trivia
Team Trivia allows your players to play both individually and on teams! You can group your players into teams and have them compete against each other - all over the world even! Your teams can consist of physical teams of players co-located at your live event or virtual teams spread out across the country or the world.
Rankings can then be displayed as both Individual Player Rankings and Team Rankings! To learn more about Team Trivia check out Team Trivia Explained.

Trivia Question Types
Your Trivia Game can have different Question Types, as described below.
Multiple Choice Questions
This is where your crowd picks from several answer choices that you write along with your question. You mark one of the answers as correct so Crowdpurr knows how to score the answers as they come in from the crowd. An example is:
- Which album is the highest-selling album of all time?
- A. Madonna's Like A Virgin
- B. Michael Jackson's Thriller
- C. U2's Joshua Tree
- D. Fleetwood Mac's Rumours
Text Answer Questions
This is where your crowd writes their own answer using their mobile-device keyboard. You specify the correct answer as a word or phrase. An example is:
- What is the capital city of the state of California?
Your specified correct answer would be Sacramento. Your crowd would then type in their own answer. Answers could be quite varied because the crowd makes up their own. Because answers can slightly vary and still be correct, you can enter multiple answers that are to be considered correct by Crowdpurr (e.g. misspellings or variations - sacremento, City of Sacramento, etc). Text Answer responses are always judged case-insensitive.
Numerical Answer Questions
This is similar to Text Answer questions but this question only accepts a number. And the keyboard shown to your crowd is a numerical keyboard versus a full-text keyboard. You would then specify a correct numerical answer. An example is:
- How many years was Steve Jobs CEO of Apple?
Your specified correct answer would be 14. Your crowd would then type in their own answer.
Drag & Drop Order
The "Drag & Drop Order" question type requires participants to drag the answer options into the correct order to answer the question correctly. When the Show Live Answer Results display is enabled, Crowdpurr will animate the answers into the top-voted order, while enabling Show Correct Answer will animate the answers into the correct order.
- In what order did these classic Disney films come out?
The correct order for this question would be:
- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
- Pinocchio
- Fantasia
- The Reluctant Dragon
Presenting the Trivia Game To Your Crowd
During the Trivia Game, in addition to answering on their mobile device, your crowd can follow along in real-time with our Presentation View. The Presentation View opens in a desktop web browser tab. It can be shown on an overhead projector or an HDTV screen. Anything that can connect to your computer and accept a video signal - similar to giving a presentation using PowerPoint or Keynote. You can then put the Presentation View into full-screen mode using the button in the lower right-hand corner.
For more information, please check out Connecting Crowdpurr to a Projector or HDTV.
Showing Answer Results, Correct Answers, and Live Rankings Leaderboard
With the Presentation View, you can show each question in the game while your crowd answers on the Participant View of their device. After answering you can show the crowd how everyone voted, then show the correct answer to the question, and finally, you can show Live Rankings allowing your crowd to see who's in the lead! You would repeat this process for each question.
At the end of your Trivia Game, you can show the crowd the Final Rankings Leaderboard and announce the winner of your game!

Exporting Trivia Game Results
When your Trivia Game is complete, every answer from every player and the player rankings can be exported as a CSV file spreadsheet for import into Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. You can also collect participant lead capture data like First Name, Last Name, Email, Age, Phone Number, and many others. This data can be exported for lead capture from your audience. Lead capture data is also tied to answer results so you can see who voted for which answers! At a minimum, your players must input a Nickname in order to have their name displayed on the live rankings leaderboard.
Trivia Games can also be anonymous without any lead capture collected and/or lead capture can be optional for the participant.
Experience Playback Modes
By default, Trivia Games are created in Host Controlled Mode. This mode assumes that you (the host) want to control the Trivia Game - moving it from question to question, showing live answer results, showing rankings, etc. The game's progression is entirely in your control making it easy for you or a friend to control a live trivia game with a host or live narrator for example.
Alternatively, you can run your Trivia Game in Fully Automatic Mode where your Trivia Game progresses automatically based on a timer, showing all questions, live answers, correct answers, and rankings automatically. You simply set it and forget it! Your Trivia Game can even loop automatically if you want it to run all day. In both Host Controlled Mode and Fully Automatic Mode, your crowd players together in sync with everyone on the same question.
Lastly, you can run your Trivia Game in Crowd Controlled Mode where your players can answer questions at their own pace. Every player can answer in any order and join the game at any time. This mode is good for all-day events, survey-style games, or when it's less important to play live. Players' scores are still ranked numerically based on points as players join and play the game throughout the day.
