Trivia Format and Scoring

The section specifies what game and scoring format your Trivia Game will use. Some of these settings were set when you initially created your Trivia Game using the Setup Wizard.

Points Mode

In this mode, your players earn points for answering each question correctly. Your players are then ranked in real-time on the Rankings Leaderboard by how many points they earned. The player with the most points at the end wins. You may set an Overall Points Value per question from this section. On the other hand, you can also set individual point values per question in each question's Edit Panel.

By default, Decreasing Points Timer is enabled. This awards your players more points for answering correctly faster and will reduce the chances of your players having a tie score because points are awarded down to the second. This will be discussed below. Use this mode for your Trivia Game if you want to keep your audience on their toes. They'll need to think quickly in this fast-paced mode!

Percentage Correct Mode

In this mode, your players are ranked on the percentage of questions they answer correctly with no points involved. All questions are worth the same amount and players are only judged based on how many questions they answer correctly.

Does the Percentage Correct Mode have a higher likelihood of tie scores Percentage Correct Mode has a higher likelihood of tie scores in the rankings due to players potentially answering the same number of questions correctly.

Adding a large number of questions with varying difficulties can reduce the number of tie scores. Additionally, using Points Mode without Decreasing Points Timer enabled will also have the same likelihood of tie scores as Percentage Correct Mode.

Survivor Trivia

Use the Survivor Trivia mode for a higher-stakes feeling in your game. Any mistake could be their last in this cutthroat mode!

In this mode, your players keep playing as long as they continue to answer every question correctly within the question time. If a player answers a question incorrectly or runs out of time, they are eliminated. The players who answer ALL questions correctly are rewarded as the winners. The Rankings Leaderboard will display the current group of Survivors in the game. There are additional options to configure upon selecting this mode. They will be covered below.

Points Mode Options

These options are for further configuring how participants earn and/or lose points in your Trivia Game.

Why can't I adjust these settings? The Points Mode Options are only editable when your Trivia Game is set to use a Question Timer and Points Mode above.

Decreasing Points Timer

When this setting is enabled, the question points will automatically decrease as the Question Timer decreases. Players earn more points the faster they answer correctly. When time runs out, the question is worth 0 points. If the Decreasing Points Timer is disabled, players receive full points for a correct answer.

The Decreasing Points Timer helps prevent cheating! This setting helps prevent cheating as it rewards players more points for actually knowing the answer immediately versus having to Google for it or ask around, which ultimately wastes time and rewards players with fewer points. It also greatly reduces the chances of having a tie score.

Points Per Question

Editing this setting lets you set a point value for each question in your Trivia Game. This is a global setting that will set the points value for every question in your Trivia Game.

To edit, click on the green Edit (Pencil) button. Type in how many points you want in the box, or you can use the up and down arrows on your keyboard.

Be sure to click the green Save (Checkmark) button afterward to save your changes. The blue Cancel (X) will cancel the changes.

Set individual question points values! Want to create bonus question(s) at the end of your Trivia Game worth more points? No problem. Set individual points values on each question by setting the points value under the Edit Question panel for each question. When an individual question's Points Value is set on the Edit Question panel, it will always use that value instead of this global Points Per Question value.

Lose Points When Incorrect

Lose Points When Incorrect options

By default, any newly-created Trivia Game will have the Lose Points When Incorrect setting disabled. However, when this setting is enabled, players lose points for any wrong answer. There are several different options you can choose from that determines how many points your players lose whenever they answer incorrectly.

Lose Points Option

Explanation

None

This is the default setting that will not penalize players for answering incorrectly.

Lose Partial Points

When selected, the amount of points lost is one-fifth of the overall points value for the question. So if a question is worth 100 points, a player would lose 20 points if they answer incorrectly.

Lose Decreasing Points

This option is only available if the Decreasing Points Timer is also enabled. If a player answers incorrectly, the amount of points lost is the same amount of points they would have won as indicated on the Decreasing Points Timer.

Lose Full Points

Players will lose the full amount of points that the question was worth.

Survivor Trivia Options

Crowdpurr has added a few useful advanced features that you may want to take advantage of when using Survivor Trivia for your crowd. The following advanced Survivor Trivia options become available once you've enabled Survivor Mode.

Eliminated Players Keep Playing

Enabling this setting allows your players to keep playing along even after they have been eliminated. Eliminated players won't be able to win, but they can still have fun by answering questions and finding out if they answered correctly.

If this setting is disabled, eliminated players will still be able to follow along on their mobile devices, but they will be unable to answer any questions - which sometimes isn't as fun for your crowd.

Always Show A Winner

Enabling this setting will always show a winner on both the Presentation View and Participant View when you enable Show Rankings (R) on the Experience Dashboard. In the event that all of your players are unable to answer every question correctly, this setting will show you the player(s) that answered the most questions correctly as the winners. If this setting is disabled, players must answer every single question correctly to win on the leaderboard. If after the last question, no players answered them all correctly, Crowdpurr will say that there were, unfortunately, no survivors.

Start With Practice Question

Start With Practice Question setting

When this setting is enabled, the first trivia question in your Trivia Game will not be counted in any results, rankings, or eliminations. Enable this setting to create a Practice Question for fun to introduce your audience to the game. With this setting disabled, the first question will be counted for rankings as a normal question. Enabling this setting does not add a new question to your Trivia Game nor does it change your first question. It simply excludes it from any scoring or eliminations.

Add a Practice Question to introduce your crowd to your trivia game! Adding a Practice Question is great for "warming up" and introducing your crowd to how the Trivia Game works on their mobile devices. This can help with the learning curve that some players experience when first getting the hang of it.

Multi-Game Rankings

What Are Multi-Game Rankings? Multi-Game Rankings allows you to link additional Trivia or Bingo Games to the current Trivia Game in order to display an additional overall cumulative Multi-Game Rankings Leaderboard during your Trivia Game.

At any time during your Trivia Game, you can display the Rankings Leaderboard for this Trivia Game only and the Multi-Game Rankings Leaderboard for this Trivia Game including all the Trivia Games added in the below panel. This is a great way to show an event-wide winner or a "day winner" when running multiple Trivia Games.

Use this setting to specify which Trivia Games you want to include in your Multi-Game Rankings.

To include any of your other Trivia Games, simply click the checkbox next to its name on this list. A check mark will appear in the box and the label on the right will change from red to green and will say Included.

Upon adding one or more Trivia Games to your Multi-Game Rankings, a new button will light up under the Viewer Controls section of the Experience Dashboard called Show Multi-Game Rankings (M).

To display your Multi-Game Rankings Leaderboard, toggle the Show Multi-Game Rankings (M) button.
