Bingo Scoring

This section specifies how the bingo game will be scored.

Bingo Format & Scoring options

Points Mode

Bingo games are always played in Points Mode. In this mode, players earn points for marking called squares on their bingo cards and for earning bingos. Players are ranked in real-time on the Rankings Leaderboard based on the points they earn. The player with the most points at the end wins.

Decreasing Points Per Bingo

The Decreasing Points Per Bingo setting decreases the amount of points earned for each bingo as players earn bingos. This is useful to award players with more points who earn bingos first. It also helps reduce the likelihood of tie-scores on the Rankings Leaderboard at the end of the bingo game as each bingo is worth a lesser amount of points.

When this setting is enabled, the amount of points each earned bingo is worth decreases starting with the amount set in the Points Per Bingo setting. Disabling this setting will award the same amount of points for every bingo earned by players.

Award Points Per Square

When this setting is enabled, players earn points for every square they mark on their cards. The points are defined by the Points Per Square setting as discussed below. If you disable this setting, players will not earn any points for each bingo square they mark.

Points Per Bingo & Points Per Square

Editing these settings lets you set point values that your participants will be awarded for each Bingo they obtain and/or each square they mark on their card.

Bingo Patterns

The Bingo Patterns section configures which bingo patterns are allowed to be used to earn bingos in the bingo game. Each bingo pattern specifies a different way to earn a bingo. As squares are called in the bingo game, when a player marks any of the patterns added to your bingo game, they will earn a bingo.

By default the Rows, Columns, and Diagonals patterns are added to all bingo games. Click on a bingo pattern to add or remove it. You can add as many or as few as desired.

How many bingos can players earn? Players can earn multiple bingos on all patterns added to the bingo game including the same pattern more than once. As squares are called, additional bingos can be earned. Players earn more points by earning additional bingos. If you want the bingo game to stop after the first bingo is earned, see the Auto-Finish Bingo Game settings.

Add Free Square

The Add Free Square setting allows the "Free" square to be added or removed on all player bingo cards. The "Free" square is a square in the center of the bingo card that is used to complete any added bingo patterns. The "Free" square is enabled by default on all new bingo games.

Display Bingo Patterns Message

The Display Bingo Patterns Message adds a footer to all player bingo cards that displays which bingo patterns are added to the bingo game. This is helpful for players to know which bingo patterns can be earned. The message automatically updates when the bingo patterns are changed. If disabled, no footer will be displayed on player bingo cards.

Can I update Bingo Patterns during a bingo game? Yes, you can update bingo patterns during bingo game at any time! For example, the bingo game could start with only the Rows pattern enabled, then once a player earns a Rows bingo, the Rows pattern can be removed and the Columns pattern can be added. This allows for a dynamic bingo game where bingo patterns can be progressively earned.

If the Bingo Patterns are updated, bingos on newly added patterns may only be earned on newly called squares. If a pattern is removed, any bingos earned on that pattern are retained by players. However if a player's bingo card already has squares marked in the pattern of a newly added bingo pattern, they will not earn a bingo simply because that pattern is added.

For example, if only the Rows pattern is enabled and a player marks a Columns bingo, it will not be counted because Columns is not an added pattern. If the Columns pattern is later added and the Rows pattern is removed, the player retains their already earned Rows bingo and the player's existing Columns bingo is not counted as a bingo because it was earned before the Columns pattern was added. The player must mark a newly called square that makes a Columns bingo in order to earn a Columns bingo.

Bingo Game Format

The Bingo Game Format section configures the called bingo squares displayed on the Presentation View and Participant View allowing different playable bingo game formats.

Standard Bingo

The Standard Bingo format is the default setting when creating a new bingo game. When the Standard Bingo setting is enabled, each called bingo square will display its text or image on the Presentation View and Participant View. If the called square does not have an image attached, then its text is displayed.

This format is useful for playing standard bingo games where players must simply recognize the called square on their bingo card and mark it.

Quiz Mode Bingo

When the Quiz Mode Bingo setting is enabled, each called bingo square will display its hint on the Presentation View and Participant View, while the text or images on the square will appear on the player's bingo card. In this mode, each bingo square should have hint text added.

This format is useful for playing quiz-style bingo games where each called square only shows its added hint and players must guess which square on their bingo card is identified by the hint.

When enabling Quiz Mode Bingo, the Highlight Called Squares setting is automatically disabled as this would reveal the square on player bingo cards that is identified by the called square's hint. This setting can be enabled again if desired.

Do I have to add hints to my bingo squares for Quiz Mode Bingo? No! All bingo games in Crowdpurr's Bingo Library come with square hints already added. If you're creating your own Quiz Bingo game from scratch, then you must also add the hints for all bingo squares in the same way you would add the square's text.

The Presentation View with Quiz Mode Bingo enabled displays the called square's hint.

Music Bingo

When the Music Bingo setting is enabled, each called bingo square will not display any text or hint on the Presentation View and Participant View. Only a blank notification is shown to indicate that a new square was called.

This format is useful for "music bingo" games where for each called square the host plays music, audio, or gives verbal hints and players must recognize and mark the correct bingo squares on their bingo cards. When a host calls a square, the called square notification simply displays a white ball with a question mark on both the Presentation View and Participant View.

When enabling Music Bingo, the Highlight Called Squares setting is automatically disabled as this would reveal the square on player bingo cards that is identified by the called square. This setting can be enabled again if desired.

Does Crowdpurr play music or uploaded audio for Music Bingo games? No, Crowdpurr does not play any music or audio for Music Bingo games. It simply runs the bingo game in a compatible format and does not reveal the called square. The host must use a Spotify or Apple Music playlist, for example, and play the song or audio on a speaker or over a venue's audio system. Upon calling a given bingo square, the host would then play that song from the playlist.

Hide Column Letters

The Hide Column Letters setting configures if a bingo square's notification on the Presentation View and Participant View should include the bingo square's column.

Hide Column Letters and Highlight Called Squares options

Hide Column Letters, Highlight Called Squares, and Allow Unlimited Square Marking options

If playing a standard bingo game with numbered squares, disabling this setting will include the called square's column in the notification (e.g. B19, N32, etc.)

However, if your bingo game's squares feature descriptive or topic-based text, then enabling this setting will omit the called square's column in the notification (e.g. Mickey Mouse, Cincinnati Reds, etc.) Crowdpurr's Bingo Library games mostly feature text-based squares so this setting is enabled by default is most library games.

What happens with the column and image-based bingo squares? For any bingo square that has an image added (e.g. GIF, stock image, or uploaded image), the added image is always shown and the square's column and text is hidden in the square notification on the Presentation View and Participant View.

Highlight Called Squares

The Highlight Called Squares setting configures if each called square should highlight on player bingo cards on the Participant View. If enabled, all called squares on player bingo cards will highlight with a red border and wiggle to indicate to the player that the square can be marked. If disabled, the player is not given any indication that the called square is on their bingo card.

This setting is useful if you want to help players know which squares they can mark as they are called.

Do not use Highlight Called Squares in Quiz Mode or Music Bingo! When using Quiz Mode or Music Bingo formats, the Highlight Called Squares setting should always be disabled. Otherwise, players will know which squares are being called defeating the purpose of making it a quiz-style or music bingo game.

This is why Highlight Called Squares is automatically disabled when using either of these bingo formats, though it can be enabled again if desired.

Allow Unlimited Square Marking

The Allow Unlimited Square Marking setting determines whether players are allowed to check every square on their card, even if the square is incorrect. By disabling the new Allow Unlimited Square Marking setting such as for a Quiz Bingo game, players will receive an incorrect square marked message and be prevented from checking further squares.

Must I disable the Allow Unlimited Square Marking feature? If you prefer players having the ability to mark every square in order to determine whether they have the associated square on their card or not, you can choose to keep the Allow Unlimited Square Marking enabled instead.

Auto-Finish Bingo Game

Automatically finish a bingo game after a certain number of bingos are earned.

Automatically finish a bingo game after a certain number of bingos are earned.

The Auto-Finish Bingo Game setting allows the bingo game to automatically finish when a certain number of bingos are earned by players. A typical scenario is having a bingo game automatically end after the first bingo is earned. The number of bingos to allow is customizable.

If Don't Automatically Finish is enabled, then the bingo game will continue to allow squares to be called, either manually or automatically if Fully Automatic Mode is enabled, until all the squares have been called. This allows players to continue to earn bingos on all the added Bingo Patterns.

If After X Bingo(s) Earned is enabled, then the bingo game will automatically finish after X amount of bingos are earned by players.

Multi-Game Rankings

What are Multi-Game Rankings? Multi-Game Rankings allow additional bingo and trivia games scores to be added to the this game's score to display an overall cumulative Rankings Leaderboard. The bingo game can display the Rankings Leaderboard for this bingo game only and the Multi-Game Rankings Leaderboard for this bingo game including all the bingo and trivia games added in the below panel. This is useful to show overall rankings and winners when running multiple rounds of games together (e.g. multiple games per day or per week). For more details, check out Multi-Game Rankings & Rounds Explained.
