Before creating your Social Wall, the Experience Wizard will walk you step-by-step through some initial settings. These are basic settings that you'll need to set before creating your Social Wall.
As of January 2024, X and Instagram functionality is temporarily disabled due to API changes; however, our Development Team is working on restoring these integrations.
Can I change these settings later? Absolutely, all settings in the Experience Wizard can be updated later once you create your Social Wall, so no need to overthink it. Most of the settings can be adjusted under the green Settings tab on the Experience Dashboard.
Header Message Tab
Header Message tab of the setup wizard
Set the Header Message
The first tab of the Experience Wizard will ask you to set a Header Message for your Social Wall. The Header Message is the text that you want your crowd to see at the top of your Social Wall. Some examples are:
Post Your Best Event Photos on the Wall!
Tell Us What You Think About The Company
Welcome To This Year's Event! Post Your Photos!
β
The header message is not your URL! The Header Message is not the instructions for posting, the specific #hashtag, or the URL used to post to your Social Wall. Crowdpurr automatically configures and adds the URL and instructions at the bottom of your Social Wall. However, feel free to add the #hashtag or instructions to your Header Message for extra emphasis!
You can also add a long Header Message if you'd like. Crowdpurr automatically sizes it correctly on the Social Wall. If you don't add or update the Header Message, a default one will be added that you can update later.
Let's create a Social Wall about everyone's favorite topic... Cats! Type in Post Your Best Cat Photos to the Wall! for the Header Message.

Social Media Tab
Social Media tab within the setup wizard
The Social Media tab allows you to select which social media channels and #hashtags you want to use to gather posts and images for your Social Wall.
Select Social Media Channels
Crowdpurr currently offers three different social media channels to aggregate social media posts and images to your Social Wall. You can enable or disable each one on this tab. For X and Instagram, you can add which #hashtags and @usernames you want your Social Wall to query from those social media channels.
Allow Posts From Crowdpurr
Enabling the Allow Posts From Crowdpurr setting allows users to post to your Social Wall directly on the web through a Crowdpurr link and doesn't involve external social media networks. This is a great option if you want to allow your crowd to participate without having to post to an external social media network, and/or if participants may not have social media accounts.
Allow Posts from Crowdpurr setting enabled
When enabled, your Social Wall will show a web link (e.g. crowd.live) and a code that your participants must enter to post. Once entered, your participants can post messages and images as many times as they choose. Disabling this channel will only allow posting through Instagram and/or X using a specified #hashtag or @username.
Allow Posts From X
Let's enable Allow Posts From X. Then add the #cats as the #hashtag and click on the green Save button. Using #cats will let us test our Social Wall with a popular #hashtag that will always have a lot of posts.
Enabling this setting allows your participants to post messages and images to your Social Wall using their X account. Posts will be added if they contain a given #hashtag or @username that you must enter in the following input field. When using a @username, posts will be included if they mention the @username or come from the @username's X account.
Don't forget to add a #hashtag or @username! If you do not have any added #hashtags or @usernames, your Social Wall will not add any posts or images from X because it does not know what to query X for.
You may only enter one #hashtag or @username per Social Wall. All #hashtags and @usernames are case-insensitive, so don't worry about capitalization.
Allow Posts From Instagram
Let's also enable Allow Posts From Instagram. Then also add #cats as the #hashtag and click on the green Save button.
Enabling this setting allows your participants to post messages and images to your Social Wall using their Instagram account. Posts will be added if they contain a given #hashtag or @username that you must enter on the following input field. When using a @username, posts will be included if they mention the @username.
Why are we using #cats? Why not test with #MyEventHashtag? For this tutorial, we want to see a lot of posts added from X and Instagram. So we'll use a popular #hashtag like #cats. This #hashtag will show us lots of images and posts about cats. If you're using your own #hashtag, keep in mind that there may not be any posts to aggregate if you or no one has posted any tweets or posts using that #hashtag.
X and Instagram get queried every 5 minutes and aggregate new matching posts that are less than 48 hours old at the time of querying. So if your #hashtag hasn't been used recently, your Social Wall will not pull any posts using that #hashtag. For testing purposes, we'll use a popular #hashtag that you can easily change later.

Layout Tab
Layout tab within the setup wizard
The Layout tab allows you to select which Social Wall layout to display on the Presentation View. The Presentation View is the display you will open and connect to an external projector or HDTV to display your Social Wall posts and images to your live audience. There are several cool layouts to choose from.
4-Column Social Mosaic | Example of 4-column social mosaic This view arranges your posts and images into four columns of various image and text sizes for a cool mosaic effect that constantly circulates your posts to give a constantly updating "live" feeling to your Social Wall. |
2-Column Social Mosaic | Example of 2-column social mosaic
This view arranges your posts and images into two columns of various image and text sizes. This is similar to the 4-Column Social Mosaic but will show slightly fewer posts and images at the same time and increase the size of displayed posts. |
Single-Column List View | Example of single-column list view
This view arranges your posts and images into an easily readable single list of posts and images. The list constantly updates to display a "stream" of your latest posts and images from your crowd. |
Single Post Spotlight | Example of single post spotlight
This view gives each of your Social Wall's posts and images the spotlight by only displaying a single post or image at a time in full-screen mode. Posts constantly refresh every few seconds to keep your crowd updated on the latest messages and images being sent to your Social Wall. |
