If you're a subscriber to the Conference Plan or higher, you can create a Custom URL for your crowd to use to participate in your Experience.
Default Crowdpurr URLs
By default, your crowd can use Crowdpurr's default crowd.live URL and enter an Experience Code to join your Trivia Game, Poll, Bingo Game, or Social Wall. Additionally, they can go directly to your Experience by simply navigating to the Crowd URL in the following format:
crowd.live/YourExperienceCode
Let's say your Experience Code was 123XYZ. To join your Experience, your crowd can navigate to:
crowd.live/123XYZ
Custom Experience Codes
By default, Crowdpurr issues any new Experience a unique random five-digit Experience Code. If you're a subscriber to the Seminar Plan or higher, you can customize this code to be any character combination between 3 and 13 characters. Please see the following article for more information - Customizing Access Codes For Experiences
Creating a Custom URL
If want to create a Custom URL that doesn't use Crowdpurr's default crowd.live URL and you're a subscriber to the Conference Plan or higher, you can purchase any domain that's available or use a subdomain of an existing domain that you already own.
Using a New Domain
By purchasing a new domain, you can have brand-activated, identity-based URLs that can use fun "active" domain names and new extension types such as:
- mycompany.live
- eventvote.com
- mycompanytrivia.ca
- playtriviaevent.online
- joinourcompany.tech
These are example domains where "mycompany" and "event" would be replaced with your company, acronym, or event title. Any domain and extension that's available for purchase can be used. We recommend domain retailers like GoDaddy and NameCheap where a new domain can be purchased anywhere from $1.99 to $9.99. Google and Amazon are also alternative website domain sellers. Crowdpurr recommends clients purchase their own domains so they can retain the rights to their Custom URL during and after their event.
Once you've purchased your domain, proceed to our Custom URL Setup Wizard below.
Using an Existing Domain
If you want to use an existing domain, you can use any subdomain of a domain you already own such as:
- vote.ourcompany.com
- play.oureventwebsite.com
- trivia.mycompany.net
- socialwall.ourevent.net
- join.company.com
These are example domains where "ourcompany" and "event" would be replaced with your company, acronym, or event title.
Once you've chosen an existing URL, proceed to our Custom URL Setup Wizard below.
Custom URL Setup Wizard
On the My Experiences page, you'll find a tab called Custom URL. If you're a Conference Plan subscriber or higher, clicking on this tab will open the Custom URL Setup Wizard.
The Custom URL Setup Wizard will walk you through the three steps in setting up your Custom URL as explained below.
After clicking Activate, your Custom URL will populate and indicate the status of the activation process. If there are any problems, Crowdpurr Help will email you to resolve them. You'll also be emailed when your Custom URL is activated and ready to use.
How It Works After Activation
After your Custom URL is activated, the Custom URL tab displaying your Custom URL will update with several options and additional features.
Linked Experience Mode - Linking To A Single Experience
By default, your Custom URL will use the Linked Experience Mode where your Custom URL directs your participants to a single Experience that you choose. Your Custom URL will have a drop-down under a column called Linked Experience. This dropdown indicates which Experience your Custom URL will direct your participants to upon navigating to your Custom URL in their mobile device browsers, all while retaining your Custom URL in the address bar. If you've uploaded Custom Logos and Custom Backgrounds, they will see a fully customized interactive experience, providing a white-label functionality that's branded to your company, identity, or event. The Presentation View of the selected Experience will also display your Custom URL.
Linked Experience Mode is useful when you want your participants to go directly to a single Experience upon visiting your Custom URL. In this mode, there is no need to enter an Experience Code because your Custom URL is linked to a specific Experience.
Changing the Linked Experience & Warping Existing Participants
Changing the selected Experience in the Linked Experience dropdown instantly updates your Custom URL to direct existing and future participants to the newly selected Experience.
The Linked Experience dropdown can be an effective way to direct participants to different Trivia Games, exit Polls after a Trivia Game, Social Walls, etc. You can also use this functionality to create Trivia Games with multiple scoring rounds and bonus rounds by using Multi-Game Rankings. For more information on how to use this functionality, check out the article Multi-Game Trivia Rankings & Trivia Rounds Explained.
Gateway Mode - Linking To Multiple Experiences
If you want your Custom URL to work with multiple Experiences, you should enable Gateway Mode. If Gateway Mode is enabled, upon navigating to your Custom URL on their mobile device browsers, your participants will be directed to an Experience Code Gateway (similar to if you visited crowd.live) where your crowd can join the Experience they choose by entering a specific Experience Code. |
When Gateway Mode is enabled, the Linked Experience dropdown will be disabled as Gateway Mode bypasses linking to any specific Experience and directs your participants to a single Experience Code Gateway.
Long-Format URLs
Whether you're using Linked Experience mode or Gateway Mode, your participants can always use the long-format URL of any of your Experiences. This format is simply your custom domain followed by a slash and the specific Experience code:
customDomain.live/CODE1
customDomain.live/CODE2
You can use this long-format URL anywhere, such as in emails, marketing materials, tweets, texts, event app links, etc.
The Help Team at Crowdpurr is always here so if you have any questions about this process, simply email help@crowdpurr.com or try chatting with us below.
